Carmen J. Petit, 81, passed away peacefully after a long illness on December 27, 2020 at the South County Nursing & Rehab Center. She was the loving wife of Jean J. Petit. Born in Central Falls, RI she was a daughter of the late Wilfred and Corinne (Martel) Cote.

Besides her beloved husband of 61 years, she is survived by four children, Jeanne Martel and husband James Sr., Suzanne Soares and husband Antonio, Lorrie Farrell and husband David, Andrea Ruxton and husband Brad; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth Martel, James Martel Jr., Jennifer Martel, Stephanie Petit, Nina Soares, Olivia Soares, Joshua Farrell, Gabriel Ruxton; five great-grandchildren, Natalia Martel, John Morel Jr., Jake Martel, Marc Colvin Jr., Adriana Petit; one sister, Martha Cote; and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Marie Elena Petit-Hamel.

Carmen was employed by the State of Rhode Island as a Nursing Assistant for many years, and as a nurse after graduating from CCRI in 1993 until her retirement. As a young mother, she enjoyed being a Girl Scout troop leader for troop 370, and a member of the St. Mary’s Pawtucket Mothers’ Club. She was a proud VFW Ladies' Auxiliary member for Post 306 The Major Walter G. Gatchell post, serving recently as the Auxiliary’s secretary. She spent time with the St. Teresa Pawtucket seniors’ group. Carmen was a highly-skilled crocheting enthusiast, an avid bingo fan, and crossword puzzle devotee.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, December 31st at 11:30am in St. Mary’s Church (upper church), Pine St., Pawtucket. A private burial will be held in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket.

The family respectfully requests flowers be omitted.
